Team India had a terrific year in T20Is in 2024. They played 26 matches in the format, winning 22 and losing only two, while the two other games ended in a tie. The Men in Blue's zenith in 2024 was undoubtedly the triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup held in the West Indies and the United States.

India kicked off 2024 in T20Is with a 3-0 thumping of Afghanistan (India won the third match in the second Super Over). They were then unbeaten in the 2024 T20 World Cup, registering eight wins in a row to clinch their first ICC title in 11 years. India's first defeat in T20Is in 2024 came against Zimbabwe in Harare in July. However, they recovered to clinch the five-match series 4-1.

Under Suryakumar Yadav, India were completely dominant against Sri Lanka (away) and Bangladesh (respectively). The Men in Blue's second defeat in T20Is in 2024 came against South Africa in Gqeberha. However, they again picked themselves up and ended up clinching the four-match series 3-1.

While Team India had a superlative year in T20Is in 2024, we rank their top five batters of the year in the format.


#5 Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma played only five matches for India in T20Is in 2024. He ended up scoring 306 runs at a strike rate of 187.73, which included centuries in consecutive matches. The southpaw got starts in the first two games against South Africa, but could not convert them, getting dismissed for 33 and 20.

Promoted to No. 3, he clobbered 107* off 56 balls in the third T20I against the Proteas in Centurion. The 22-year-old batter's knock included eight fours and seven sixes. In the next match, he slammed 120* off only 47 balls in Johannesburg. This time, Varma hammered nine fours and 10 sixes.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya played some crucial knocks for India in T20Is in 2024. In 14 innings, he contributed 352 runs at an average of 44 and a strike rate of 150.42. The 31-year-old lifted himself brilliantly in the T20 World Cup after a horror IPL 2024 and was one of the heroes of India's triumph.

Pandya hammered 50* off 27 balls in the Super 8 clash against Bangladesh in North Sound. The hard-hitting batter contributed 27* off 17 against Australia and smacked 23 off 13 in the semi-final against England. Pandya also made handy contributions in the T20I series' against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and South Africa. He clobbered 47 off 18 deliveries against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.


#3 Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar took over the reins of captaincy from Rohit Sharma in the T20I format after the 2024 T20 World Cup. He impressed as a leader but had a mixed year with the willow. In 17 innings, he scored 429 runs at an average of 26.81 and a strike rate of 151.59, with four half-centuries.

The Indian batter hit consecutive fifties against the USA and Afghanistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The 34-year-old slammed 31 off 16 in the Super 8 match against Australia in Gros Islet and contributed 47 off 36 balls in the semifinals against England in Guyana.

Suryakumar managed only two fifties in his next 10 innings in 2024 - 58 off 26 against Sri Lanka in Pallekele and 75 off 35 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.


#2 Rohit Sharma

Rohit announced his T20I retirement after leading the Men in Blue to victory in the World Cup. He played 11 innings in the format in 2024, scoring 378 runs at an average of 42 and a strike rate of 160.16, with the aid of one ton and three fifties.

The 37-year-old began the year with two consecutive ducks against Afghanistan but followed it up with a scintillating 121* off 69 balls in the tied encounter in Bengaluru. The Hitman struck 11 fours and eight sixes in a thrilling contest that was decided in the second Super Over.

Rohit made crucial contributions with the willow in Team India's T20 World Cup triumph. He hit 52* off 37 (retired hurt) in the side's opening game against Ireland in New York. The skipper slammed 92 off 41 balls in the Super 8 clash against Australia in Gros Islet. In the semifinal against England in Guyana, Rohit top-scored with 57 off 39 balls.


#1 Sanju Samson

Having been in and out of the Indian team several times over the last few seasons, Sanju Samson finally managed to prove his worth on the big stage in 2024. He finishes as India's leading run-getter in T20Is this year, with 436 runs in 12 innings at an average of 43.60 and a strike rate of 180.16, with three hundreds and one fifty. Incredibly, he was also dismissed for a duck five times.

After warming up with 58 off 45 against Zimbabwe in Harare in the fifth T20I in July, he slammed his maiden T20I ton against Bangladesh in Hyderabad. In the third match of the series, the Kerala batter clubbed 111 off 47 balls, with the aid of 11 fours and eight sixes.

Samson made it hundreds in consecutive matches when he struck 107 off 50 balls in the first game against South Africa in Durban, a knock that featured seven fours and 10 sixes. After registering ducks in the next two matches, he ended 2024 with a fantastic 109* off 56 in Johannesburg, hitting six fours and nine sixes.
