India played their final Test of 2024 against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The match finished with Australia registering a massive 184-run victory. The Rohit Sharma-led outfit will enter the New Year trailing 1-2 in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
Looking back at 2024, it was a year full of highs and lows for India in Test cricket. Rohit and Co. started the year with a Test win inside three days against South Africa at Newlands, followed by a brilliant 4-1 series win against England, and then a memorable 2-0 series win over Bangladesh.
However, after that, New Zealand ended India's 12-year unbeaten streak in home Test series by whitewashing them 3-0. Rohit's side then reached Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where they trail by 1-2 now.

#5 Ravindra Jadeja
Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja played a huge role in the win against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium as he scored 86 in the first innings, which helped the team recover from 144/6 and post 376 on the board. After being ignored for the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, Jadeja came back against in the second Test against Australia, scoring a 123-ball 77 to help India avoid a follow-on.
The Tests against New Zealand were not so memorable for Jadeja, but he had scored a match-winning ton against England in Rajkot. Overall, Jadeja scored 527 runs in 18 Test innings, attaining the 5th place on the list of highest run-scorers for India in Tests in 2024. He recorded one century and three half-centuries this year.
#4 Rohit Sharma
Even Rohit Sharma played a crucial 39-run knock at the top of the order against the Proteas at Newlands. In the absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit stepped up and scored 400 runs in the series against England, including two hundreds.
He also played a pivotal role in the Kanpur win against Bangladesh, scoring an 11-ball 23, which set the tone for the innings. Although his performances were not up to the mark against New Zealand and Australia, he still ended up as the nation's third highest run-scorer in Tests this year, with 619 runs in 26 innings at a strike rate of 63.03.
#3 Rishabh Pant
Wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant made his comeback to the longest format of the game in 2024. He scored a brilliant century in his comeback Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
After that, he scored 99 in the second innings of the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand, where the home side had been dismissed for just 46 in the first innings and then conceded 462 to the visitors.
Pant aggregated 576 runs in 17 innings this year. His performances in Australia have not been so great, but he still averages 36 with the bat in 2024.
#2 Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill ended 2024 as the nation's second-highest run-getter in Test cricket. He amassed 866 runs in 22 innings, registering three centuries and three half-centuries.
The right-handed batter starred in the team's series win against England and Bangladesh. He missed some Tests due to injuries and team combination this year. Otherwise, Gill could have crossed the 1,000 run-mark in Tests in 2024.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the best batter in Tests for India this year. He topped the run-charts with 1,478 runs in 29 innings, averaging 54.74.
The left-handed batter started the year with two double centuries in the home series against England. He ended the year with two half-centuries in the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the MCG.
The fans will remember his 161-run knock against Australia in Perth, which helped the visitors win the match by a colossal margin of 295 runs.
