The Indian vice-captain had a fabulous tour of Australia in 2014 where he scored 399 runs at an impressive average of 57. He also managed a century and two fifties. His partnerships with Kohli helped India get to 300+ scores in all four matches. He barely struggled against any bowler and was solid with his defensive technique.

Times have changed and there has been a remarkable dip in Rahane's performances, and the recent England tour was an example of the same where he managed only 257 runs at an average of 25.7. Rahane would be under pressure to perform well after his below average run in test cricket for the last two years. Team India would be expecting a lot more from their vice-captain. He would be a key to India's success in Australia.
