One of the greatest-ever spinners to have ever played the shortest format of the game, Rashid Khan earned his maiden IPL contract with the SunRisers Hyderabad in 2017. Blessed with a sharp googly and immaculate control, Rashid first caught the eyes of the SRH scouting group during the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup in India.

Rashid Khan IPL Teams from 2017-24
Subsequently, after Rashid Khan’s impressive returns in the 2016 T20 World Cup held in India, SRH shelled out INR 4 crores to claim the services of the Afghan superstar during the 2017 mini-auction. Rashid didn't disappoint, finishing his debut season with 17 wickets @ 21.05/6.62. Khan was regained by SRH for INR 9 crores following a bidding war at the 2018 mega-auction. Throughout the next 4 seasons, Rashid went on to become the poster boy of the franchise alongside David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Rashid claimed 21 wickets in IPL 2018 to help SRH reach the final, where he had a rare bad outing against a rampaging Shane Watson. He continued his good work in the following seasons, bagging 17, 20, and 18 wickets respectively even as SRH's performance went through a sustained decline.
However, his 5-year association with the franchise eventually ended when SRH didn't retain his services ahead of the 2022 mega-auction. Their loss proved to be Gujarat Titans' gain as the Adani-led franchise named the Afghan superstar one of its three marquee players, alongside skipper Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill.
Rashid again didn't disappoint as he not only led the bowling attack to the hilt- 19 wickets @ 22.16/6.60- but also played a few match-winning cameos in a season, which GT eventually went on to win in 2022. The IPL 2023 witnessed nothing less of his impressive best as Rashid Khan bettered his records by picking up 27 wickets and upgraded from a bowler to more or less a bowling all-rounder as the leggie continued from where he left off in 2022 with the bat.
Rashid Khan IPL Auction Price
Rashid Khan was welcomed to the IPL by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017 for INR 4 crores after their scouting team was mightily impressed by the Afghan in the 2016 T20WC held in India. The decision proved to pay the dividends more as SRH’s decision to induct Rashid proved to be an absolute steal as the leggie was a proven match-winner for the franchise for years to come.
However, the decision to release him ahead of the 2022 IPL Mega Auction to accommodate their purse eventually proved costly as the newly launched Gujarat Titans drafted him into their team for INR 15 crores as one of their three major drafts ahead of the mega auction and Rashid did not disappoint them as he was instrumental in the franchise’s title-winning season in their maiden IPL campaign. Rashid bettered himself in IPL 2023 as the wily leggie picked up 27 wickets and played a few match-winning cameos as well, helping the team reach successive finals.
