Real life 'daredevils' to inspire Delhi

Delhi Daredevils have signed on four flag bearers of daredevilry as the Delhi Daredevils Superfans. Arjun Vajpai, the youngest Indian to climb Mt. Everest at the age of 16, Anu Vaidyanathan, a triathlete and the only Asian to compete in Ultraman , Arun Bhardwaj, an internationally acclaimed endurance runner who completed a distance of 277 kms in 41 hours and Reena Kaushal the only Indian women to reach South pole were given the Delhi Daredevils Superfan badge by the GMR sports chairman Kiran K. Grandhi. Superfans were also presented with a Panasonic Lumix digital camera each.

“You don’t need to be a cricketer to exhibit daredevilry. These Superfans with what they have achieved in sports will be an inspiration for the Delhi Daredevils. After last year’s bad performance we decided to rebuild the team”, said Grandhi.

Superfans are the common people who have achieved great goals with help of their resolute, energetic and daring nature, the same attributes Delhi Daredevils stand for.

Just like the Delhi Daredevils, Superfan Arun Bhardwaj believes in living his life on frontfoot. Arjun Vajpai said that daredevilry to him means living life on the edge and never looking back. While Anu Vaidyanathan said “I relate well to the Daredevils as the key element in any sport is mental fortitude, not cracking under pressure is very important.”

TA Sekar, GMR sports head (cricket) said “The team will benefit from interacting with these Superfans by learning from their experiences and applying their methods of achievement to their own way of playing.”

“This time around we wanted to have a balanced team and have succeeded in our goal. We needed to strengthen our middle order and the re-auction of Kochi players was a blessing in disguise as we got Mahela Jayawardene. He and Viru will complement each other very well. We have also got some big hitters in the form of Kevin Pietersen and David Warner and two good allrounders in Doug Bracewell and Andre Russell. With Eric Simons as the head coach we are sure our performance in IPL 5 will be much better.”
