Boxing Day Test at MCG breaks world record for Test cricket attendance

Melbourne Cricket Ground(MCG) recorded the highest attendance on the 1st Day of the 4th Test between Australia and England

The Melbourne Cricket Ground(MCG) in Australia reaffirmed its status as the Mecca of Test cricket when it registered a world record Test attendance on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test against England.

According to Cricket Australia’s official twitter feed, the MCG recorded an attendance of 91,092 on Day 1, eclipsing the previous record of 90,800, also set at the MCG during the fifth Test between Australia & West Indies during the 1960-61 series.

PS: Although games at the Eden Gardens in Calcutta/Kolkata are believed to have witnessed attendances greater than 100,000, no official attendance figures were issued for these matches.
