Chris Lynn dislocated his right shoulder during the tri-series final against New Zealand, and didn't play any further part in the game. He opted out of the Pakistan Super League due to the injury which looks quite serious. The Australian opener had issues with his right shoulder in the past, and missed a lot of matches due to the same. He also missed most parts of the IPL last year due to his dislocated shoulder which he acquired in a game against the Mumbai Indians.
Chris Lynn is one of the biggest hitters in the IPL and can change the course of the game if he stays for any length of time. KKR retained him in this year's IPL with the help of Right To Match card (RTM), and a lot of their hopes will rest on him. If he fails to make it to the IPL this year, it will be a big blow for the Knights as their bench strength is not the best in this year's IPL.
A like-to-like replacement for him is not entirely possible, but these players can create an impact at the top of the order:
#5 Kusal Perera
The left-handed opening batsman from Sri Lanka got some brisk starts at the top of the order in recent past. He is a player in the mould of Sanath Jayasurya who is severe to anything which is pitched short of length, and can take full toll of the first six overs of field restrictions.
Being a player from the sub-continent, he is an exceptional player of spin bowling which will help him get runs in Indian conditions. He played some breathtaking cameos at the top of the order at home as well as away from home. He is a stand and deliver kind of player who can take the game to the opposition and can demoralize any bowling attack on his day.
#4 Alex Carey
The 26-year-old left-hander who represented the Adelaide Strikers in the BBL was quite productive with the bat up front. In 12 BBL matches he scored 443 runs striking at 141 per hundred balls which also includes a hundred.
He was magnificent against the new ball, and took his team off to a start in most of the games. Carey also made his international debut for Australia recently as a replacement for Tim Paine.
#3 Heinrich Klaasen
The wicket keeper batsman from the Rainbow nation just played a handful of games, and impressed a lot in this little period. He came in as a replacement for Quinton De Kock who injured himself in the 2nd ODI versus India, and he has never looked back since then.
Though he comes down the order he had to face the ball when it was hard and new due to fall of some early wickets, and he didn't disappoint. He is a superb player of spin bowling which is essential taking into account the Indian conditions. He won a couple games for his side single-handedly versus India in a series which has been dominated by the visitors so far.
He is someone who can hit the ball at will, and he is very innovative in nature, which doesn't let the bowler settle down.
#2 Alex Hales
The right-handed belligerent hitter from England went unsold in the IPL Auctions 2018, and it has been a bit of a shocker bearing in mind his big-hitting abilities. He is someone who bats with a clear head, and if he gets anything in his half, it travels only one way and that's out of the park.
He is a similar player to Lynn, in the sense that he likes to hit the ball straight down the ground and is a good exponent of the pull shot as well.
#1 Martin Guptill
The opener from New Zealand is one of the most menacing batsmen in world cricket, and taking his potential into account, it's hard to comprehend the cause behind his IPL career not taking off.
He went unsold in this year's auction which has been a big surprise taking into account his present form at home. He has made a strong case for himself by getting a hundred against the mighty Aussies in a T20 game recently, and KKR can see him as an option if Lynn is unavailable due to injury.
