“Where there is movement, there is improvement.”

It seems like this highly acclaimed Rohit Sharma is living up to his record of playing a 50-something innings and then being flop for the next 5 innings. The new selection committee will have to seriously speculate the future of this youngster otherwise if the current trend goes on, he might be thrown out of the team and this time for a fairly longer period, that might stretch on for years. The selection process will be a seriously strenuous process for the selectors and the captain because then they are gambling on a player who works once in 6 matches and that too doubtfully. He hasn’t come out as a serious match winner for the Indian cricket team. Even Suresh Raina’s form can be questioned but then Raina has always performed in the little opportunities that he has got and his strike rate is also good.
On thinking more about the future of Rohit Sharma, one might as well suggest that he has to be tried in the domestic format for a longer period of time, perhaps even for many months but it has to be assured that when he comes back he is particularly good on his performance. We might take the example of Mike Hussey who made his entry into the Australian team in his 30s but he has never looked back. Hussey has carefully stepped into the shoes of Michael Bevan to become the finisher. Hussey, rightly called Mr. Cricket has been their man of crisis for some years now. Rohit Sharma can adopt the same plan of action by performing in the domestic circuit for a longer and consistent period of time and then coming back into action and this time FOREVER.
What is most important is immediate action on the player’s part as well as the board’s part because the way he is going, he is going to become a liability to the team. Often touted as the heir to Sachin, Rohit has not been able to prove himself yet. A possible example could be that he has been around the team for more than 5 years now but he is like a floater in the batting order and unable to deliver consistently. His basics of batting are really good and that his where he has to realize his strength and make sure to come and deliver consistently. Also to add to his and the team’s miseries, his fielding and running between the wickets is no better. He’s become a lazy stack it seems. What is needed is immediate correction. A possible suggestion could be staying away from the national team for some time and returning back fitter and ready to deliver consistently with his elegant shots.
This is high time for Rohit Sharma and if the correction doesn’t happen now, then he might see himself going off the radar.
