Rohit Sharma’s injustice to himself

Australia v India - Tri-Series Game 7

Out of all the things that Rohit has lost, he must be missing his mind the most at the moment; after all it is the most important aspect that is required to succeed at the highest level. Cricket, more often than not, is a game which is played between the ears, much like chess. A player like Rohit Sharma might have all the talent in the world, but if he does not use his head, it will not take him anywhere.

Batting has a lot to do with the state of mind a player is in and also is directly related to his attitude. It is more of a form of natural expression and not always copybook. What comes naturally to Rohit is the ease at which he bats when he is in full flow, which is few and far in between as he is consistently inconsistent.

Having all that talent all he needs to do is to get his act together and work on his temperament. At the moment he is not doing justice to the kind of talent that he possesses.

Rohit will come out and make the most beautiful thirties and forties filled with shots all around the wicket and just when he will make you think that he is special, he will get out in the most excruciating manner that anybody can think off.

Temperament is what separates the men from the boys and its high time that he works on it, pick the right balls to hit; otherwise time is running out for him as there are players like Manoj Tiwari and Ajinkya Rahane waiting in the wings.Having played close to hundred one-day matches for India with an average of shade over 32, he is no longer new to international cricket. He has failed to capitalise on most of the opportunities that he has got and at times one gets the feeling that the India cap is taken for granted and you no longer earn it.

It is amazing when you are going through a rough patch you don’t see the gaps in the field and only find the fielders; you try to bat correctly rather than effectively. This is where Rohit’s mental strength will be put to test and he needs to come out with an answer, or else very soon he will find out that walking back into the Indian team is the longest walk he has ever had.
