The captain of the defending champions, Mumbai Indians, had a lot of expectations on his shoulders, as he was leading a side full of superstars. Rohit Sharma amassed a tally of 489 runs from 14 matches at an average of 44.45 with 5 half-centuries and a strike rate of 132.88.

This IPL season did not pan out for Rohit Sharma or Mumbai Indians as they would have liked. While Sharma was phenomenal while chasing targets, his numbers while setting a target have been abysmal. He scored 394 runs while chasing but a mere 95 runs in 7 innings batting first.

The 29-year-old looked to be out of sorts when his side were batting first, which was an important reason behind Mumbai Indians’ failure to reach the playoffs. Having retained Sharma for 12.5 crores, Mumbai would have hoped that the Indian opener helped them to a top four finish.
