Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar has committed to giving a part of the sale proceeds from his autobiography “Playing it My Way” to a Mumbai-based NGO, Apnalaya, in their fight against malnutrition in children and provision of clean drinking water.

"Sachin has committed a part of his proceeds from the sale of the autobiography to Apnalaya in their fight against malnutrition in children and provision of clean drinking water. The autobiography is scheduled for release on November 6," Apnalaya said in a press release.

Tendulkar has been closely associated with the initiatives of Apnalaya over the last two decades and is planning to give a minimum of Rs 25 lakhs from the sale proceeds of his hugely anticipated autobiography.

Founded in 1973, Tendulkar’s year of birth coincidentally, Apnalaya has worked with five slum organizations in Mumbai till date and is focused on improving the quality of life of the slum-dwellers.

Dr Aparna Santhanam, Secretary of the Apnalaya Board, commenting on the goodwill extended by Tendulkar, said: "Sachin has been our silent supporter for a long time and all of us at Apnalaya are thankful to him for making us a part of his autobiography. This contribution will help in enhancing our efforts in two critical areas -- malnutrition in children and provision of clean drinking water through community self help groups, both in the existing communities where we are engaged as also in initiating work in new communities."
