The man who won a billion hearts through his exquisite batting strokes and his humbleness even after reaching heights of greatness, Sachin Tendulkar has arguably been the greatest batsman ever that the game of cricket has witnessed.
The numerous records that he has set only go on to show his remarkable journey that has spanned for 24 years and the hard work, struggle and the determination that was required to get there.

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, who is currently 43 years of age, was born on the 24th of April in 1973 in Mumbai, Maharashtra at the Nirmal Nursing Home in Dadar. His father, Ramesh Tendulkar was a renowned Marathi poet and mother, Rajni, worked in the insurance field.

He was introduced to the game of Cricket in 1984 and was accepted at the Achrekar’s Academy, mentored by coach Ramakant Achrekar.
He was advised by his coach to shift his schooling to Sharadashram Vidyamandir English High School as they had a competitive cricket team and had produced some good cricketers in the past.
Apart from playing cricket for his school, Tendulkar also played club cricket, representing John Bright Cricket Club in Bombay’s premier club cricket tournament known as the Kanga League and even went on to play for the Cricket Club of India. In 1987, Sachin took part in the MRF Pace Foundation in Madras (now Chennai) to train as a pace bowler but had his focus shifted to batting by former Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee.
As a consolation for not winning the Bombay Cricket Association’s “Best Junior Cricket Award”, Sachin was gifted a pair of ultra light pads by former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar. Sachin also ended the 1988-89 season as the highest run-getter for Bombay with 583 runs at an average of 67.77 and also sixth highest overall in the tournament. In November 1989, aged just 16 years, Tendulkar made his International Test debut against Pakistan in Karachi.
