I have worked hard on correcting flaws in my bowling action: Saeed Ajmal

Saeed Ajmal confident of returning before the 2015 ICC World Cup

Pakistan offspinner Saeed Ajmal has said that he will remain as effective a bowler as earlier after having re-modelled his bowling action under the guidance of Saqlain Mushtaq recently. Ajmal had been banned from bowling in international cricket by the ICC in September after a bio-mechanic test at an ICC accredited testing centre in Brisbane found the flex in his elbow to be exceeding the 15 degrees as permitted under current ICC rules.

"I am scheduled to be sent to Cardiff next week by the Pakistan Cricket Board for a private test and have already applied for the visa," Ajmal told reporters in Lahore.

"I have worked hard on correcting the flaws in my action and have made some minor changes to it. But I am confident that even after the changes, I will remain as effective as a bowler as I was before being suspended," the 37-year old added.

With the World Cup being just 6 months away at the time of Ajmal’s ban, there was great concern that he will miss out on playing for Pakistan in Australia and New Zealand come the quadrennial event. But Ajmal has said that he is confident of returning to international action in time for the World Cup, which will undoubtedly be a huge boost to Pakistan’s chances. "I am confident of a strong comeback to competitive cricket before the World Cup," he said.

Ajmal added that he had undergone informal testing at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, and hopes to clear informal testing in Cardiff sometime next week.

"I have been constantly tested with the cameras installed at the NCA and I am hopeful I will also clear the informal test in Cardiff," he said.

"I am comfortable bowling with the new redesigned action so I am confident and I remain effective as before," Ajmal added.
