MS Dhoni‘s friend and the man who taught him the now-famous helicopter shot, Santosh Lal, has sadly passed away.

Santosh Lal, who was a member of the Jharkhand Ranji squad and a team mate of the Indian captain, passed away at a hospital in Delhi today.

Mr. Lal was being treated with a severe case of pancreatitis at Ranchi and had to be shifted to the national capital due to his worsening condition. The 32-year-old is survived by his parents, wife and a three-year-old daughter.

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association had donated Rs. 1 lakh to Lal for the treatment and Rs 39,500 was contributed by the association members. The association held a condolence meeting in memory of the cricketer at the JSCA stadium here.

Dhoni was also providing all possible help and had always made it a point to meet Lal whenever possible, and has reportedly credited his helicopter shot to him.
