SATIRE: "I requested Delhi Daredevils not to retain me" - Ashish Nehra

Pakistan v India - 2011 ICC World Cup Semi-Final

In a shocking revelation, Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra said that he had personally requested the Delhi Daredevils management to not retain him in the squad for Indian Premier League 2014. He did so, not because he was unfit as usual, but because he saw a dream in which he saw himself being bought by the Chennai Super Kings franchise.

He also confessed that the first person he spoke to after his dream was his favourite bowling partner Zaheer Khan. Zaheer apparently laughed it off and suggested that Ashish go to France instead like he and Yuvraj did recently and get fit before hoping that such unrealistic dreams would come true.

Nevertheless, his dream surprisingly did come true when Chennai Super Kings franchise spent Rs. 2 crores on the 34-year-old with jokes trending all over Twitter wondering why was such an unexpected buy made by the most successful team of the IPL.

Furthermore, Ashish also confessed that he apologized to current Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for abusing him in a ODI game against Pakistan on 12th April 2005 in Vishakapatnam when the ‘Helicopter Shot’ Specialist dropped a simple catch of Boom Boom Afridi off Nehra’s bowling.

“Though he wasn’t the captain then and Dada was, I always still felt that he did hold a grudge against me even when so many years passed by. When I asked Suresh (Raina) if MSD had ever discussed about it, he just grinned without replying which made my feeling stronger! I am sure my apologies must have influenced their decision to buy me and I am thankful to God for this opportunity!” said Nehra.

For the uninitiated, it was this incident which Nehra was referring to:

He is assured that with a couple of good spells for CSK in the IPL, he could surely force his way back into the team and dreams of playing the ICC World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand.

Nehra last represented India in the 2011 World Cup semifinal against Pakistan in which he had stunning bowling figures of 10-0-33-2 and it does raise eyebrows on why he was never picked after that despite being fit.

Hope you enjoyed this article. Nevertheless HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY all Sportskeeda readers!

Disclaimer: This article was just a SATIRE and doesn’t mean to offend Ashish Nehra in any way because I do genuinely believe he was a great talent whose career got jeopardized due to injuries and low self confidence.
