Yesterday, amidst all the retaining done by the IPL franchises, Sir Ravindra Jadeja announced his decision to retain the Chennai Super Kings outfit ahead of the 2014 auctions.
After months of careful observation and calculations, he came to a conclusion that the team was in good form, and it would be better for him to retain the franchise rather than risk it returning into the auction pool and being stolen by other eager buyers.
“I felt that they [CSK players] were making progress over the years,” said Jadeja, “And that since they are in their peak form now, retaining them would be prudent to ensure the team stays strong.”
When asked about what he planned to do in the auctions, he simply responded by saying that he had “a few players in mind”.
“I will be looking for the RCB and MI franchises” said Jadeja. “I know its going to be hard to get them as they have such talent that would attract other bidders, but hopefully we can use the ‘rights to match’ card to our advantage here”.
The topic finally turned to Gurunath Meiyappan’s place in the team, and Jadeja simply replied that he [Meiyappan] was a “cricket enthusiast”, and had no real association with him.
However, that was the last our interviewing team could get out of him before he started shouting at us, saying that we were interfering in “personal matters between him and BCCI”, and that he would tie us to a pole that Dale Steyn and Brett Lee used for “speed and accuracy” practice if we made any further inquiries on the matter.
