Sehwag after scoring his 69-ball hundred
The record books will have to be re-written today as India opener Virender Sehwag slammed the highest-ever ODI score in Indore against West Indies. The full-house crowd at the stadium saw a hurricane knock by the opener, who became the second batsman ever to score a double century in ODIs, the first one being Sachin Tendulkar. The ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ took just 140 deliveries to score the double, which included 23 fours and 6 sixes. Sehwag was out for 219.
Sehwag was on 197 off 139 deliveries when he cut a Russel delivery through point. The ball raced past the boundary and with that Sehwag became the highest scorer for India in both Test and ODI formats.
Sachin Tendulkar had scored 200* in 2010 against South Africa in Gwalior.
The magical innings from Sehwag came to an end when he mishit a delivery from Pollard in an attempt to hit what could have been the eighth six of his innings. However, the ball was caught at the boundary line and marked the end of an astonishing innings.
With this knock, Sehwag managed to return to form after a sequence of poor scores.
