Melbourne, Dec 23 (IANS) National selector Mark Waugh has revealed that Shane Watson was "off-colour" after being struck by a bouncer while batting in the nets on Tuesday ahead of the third Test against India which starts here on Boxing Day. He also added that the all-rounder will be monitored for concussion.
Waugh was quoted as saying by The Sydney Morning Herald, “Watson was pretty much OK to start off with, then he felt off-colour back in his hotel room. So I believe he's going to have a few tests overnight and we'll see how he comes up in the morning so hopefully he'll be OK to play in the Test match.”
He said the selectors would wait on the results of the tests before deciding whether to call up another all-rounder or batsman to the squad.
Watson was hit by a James Pattinson delivery at a practice session. With memories of the late batsman Phillip Hughes' untimely death while batting, also by a bouncer, still fresh in everyone's memory, both were visibly shaken from the incident and were unable to continue the nets session, adds the report.
