Tino Best and Shoaib Malik have been charged heavy fines after being involved in an on-field spat during a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match between Barbados Tridents and St. Lucia Zouks on July 23.
The heated argument took place during the 15th over of the Tridents’ innings, after Best clean-bowled Malik for 49.
Best foul-mouthed Malik after dismissing him, to which the Pakistan batsman responded by placing his hands on the fast bowler’s shoulder.
The match referee, at the conclusion of the game, held both players guilty.
Best was guilty of committing two offences: "conduct that either (a) is contrary to the spirit of the game; or (b) brings the game into disrepute", a level- one offence and "using language or a gesture(s) that is seriously obscene, seriously offensive or of a seriously insulting nature to another player", a level-two offence.
As a result, he has been fined 10% and 50% of his match fees.
Malik has been 50% of his match fees as his offence related to "inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players".
Both players have accepted their offences.
