Kamran Akmal and Gautam Gambhir’s face-off

There were fireworks even when the balls were not being bowled

Digressing away from cricket, the match also had its fair share of controversy as Gautam Gambhir and Kamran Akmal were involved in a heated exchange of words on the field during India’s run chase. During the 22nd and the 23rd over, Kamran Akmal appealed vociferously for a couple of caught-behinds of Gautam Gambhir.

In the first instance Billy Doctrove turned a decision down and in the next over, Billy Bowden called for drinks following an appeal for a catch by Akmal and Saeed Ajmal. Things turned ugly during the drinks break when Akmal and Gambhir charged towards each other during the drinks break.

It was only after MS Dhoni and the umpires’ intervention that the situation was brought under control. An India versus Pakistan contest is no short of drama and such incidents have happened pretty consistently when the two teams have locked horns.

The good news for India was that they managed to register a victory and went to the top of the table in the group games. They eventually went on to win the title, beating Sri Lanka by 81 runs in the Final of the 2010 Asia Cup at Dambulla.
