When everyone thinks that he is down and out, he makes a sensational comeback. Perhaps that’s why he is also known as the ‘Comeback King’. Yes, we are talking about India’s proven match winner and former international cricketer Sourav Ganguly. If reports are to be believed, Sourav is very close to make a comeback in the IPL arena by turning up for the Kochi Tuskers team.
If Sourav actually makes it to the IPL field, then he will be fourth time lucky. Sourav himself is quite upbeat about his IPL chances. In a small interview to a local Bengali channel he said, “Amar Mone hochhe dekhte Pabe, ei muhurte amar Fingers Crossed” (I think you can see me, at this moment I’m keeping my fingers crossed) on being asked if his fans can watch him in the IPL soon.

Last few days were abuzz with news reports of Dada’s possible return to the IPL fold. A senior sports journalist working for a popular Hindi news channel was posting several tweets in the past few days about Sourav being bought by the Kochi IPL team. As Mahela Jayawardene will leave the IPL and return to his country possibly in May 1st week for preparation for a series against England, Sourav is said to be on Kochi management’s radar to be a replacement for Mahela. It is still not clear if Sourav will captain the side in case he is picked by the Kerala team.
This will be the third time attempts are being made by the Kochi franchisee to rope in Sourav Ganguly after the ‘Prince of Kolkata’ was snubbed by the IPL team owners during the Player auction. After a few days of the auction, Kochi had asked the BCCI to permit it to buy Ganguly out of the auction which couldn’t happen as few other teams opposed the idea. Few days ago, Kochi had again expressed its desire to take Dada as an injury replacement for Steve Smith who has been ruled out of the IPL4 due to injury. This attempt failed because of certain IPL rules. But this time the window of opportunity for Sourav seems to be wide open and his numerous fans can see him soon on the cricket field.
