At the start of the year, Shikhar Dhawan's place in the Indian ODI was hanging in the balance as the opener was in and out of the team due to his inconsistency. The team management kept faith in him and picked him for the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and there was no turning back for the left-hander.
He scored three centuries and six fifties since and by the end of the year, he cemented his place in the Indian team at least till the 2019 World Cup. 2017 was kind to the opening batsman as he, along with his opening partner Rohit Sharma, hunted the opposition bowlers as a pair and dented their confidence in the first few overs.
With 960 runs in 22 innings at an average of 48 and a strike-rate of 102, Dhawan earns his place on the top 10 ODI batsmen of the year.
