Sportskeeda Exclusive: Interview with RP Singh

Rudra Pratap Singh, commonly known among the cricketing circle as ‘RP’ has been one of the most consistent performers in the IPL, owing to which he is among the leading wicket-takers in the tournament with 64 wickets in 56 games. After delivering match-winning performances for his previous teams Deccan Chargers and Kochi Tuskers Kerala, RP now sets his sights on continuing his remarkable run donning the Mumbai Indians colors. This left arm seamer tells us more about his game:-

There was a bit of criticism coming your way in England. How are you shaping up now?In the Tests, I was put into play after a long gap of three years, so I was obviously nervous. But if you see in the One-dayers, I was bowling in rhythm and did manage to pick up a few wickets too. Even now I am training hard and playing in the domestic circuit hoping to get better as a bowler with each passing day.

How does it feel joining the Mumbai Indians?It feels great. Mumbai Indians is a very good team and has always been a contender for the title. I hope to help Mumbai achieve that goal in as many ways I can.

Mumbai Indians is faring pretty well at the moment 4 out of 3 matches. Do you think this time it can clinch the Winning IPL Trophy which has eluded it in past?Oh yes, definitely. We have Sachin paaji and some more really talented batsman like Pollard and Rayudu. Bhajji pa is brilliantly playing his role as a captain and we already know what an exceptional bowler he is. We have top 5 wicket-takers in IPL. With three Purple Cap holders, and the likes of Munaf, Mitchell and Harbhajan, you have to admit that it is one of the best line-ups in the fray.

You still haven’t played in the 11 this IPL. Is it frustrating?Yeah I haven’t played any matches which is a little frustrating obviously, but cricket being a team game, sometimes the right combination is required. There are still many matches left and I am hopeful of playing and giving my best for my team. The most important thing here is victory for the team.

You’ve had a good stint in T20, playing for India. Is the format likely to pave way again for your comeback? As I said earlier I’m trying to focus on whatever I’m doing at the moment, whether it is domestic, IPL, or international cricket. My aim is to try and give my best to the team I play for. Selection is not in my hands. If it is has to happen, it will happen.
