Despite their regular captain David Warner being absent from the previous season of the IPL, the Orange Army, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to reach the final under Kane Williamson's leadership.
All the young players of the squad stepped up to support the seasoned pros as Hyderabad had a memorable season in 2018.
However, this year their squad has undergone massive changes with their most experienced Indian player, Shikhar Dhawan joining the Delhi Capitals in the IPL trade window.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad team management tried their best to assemble the best squad possible and here are the players who will play for the Orange Army in the 12th edition of IPL.
Batsmen and Wicket-keepers
Openers: Martin Guptill, David Warner, Ricky Bhui
Middle Order Batsmen: Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey
Wicket-keepers: Jonny Bairstow, Wriddhiman Saha, Shreevats Goswami
Sunrisers Hyderabad undoubtedly have one of the strongest batting line-ups on paper. With David Warner returning to the team, the batting order looks much stronger now. Kane Williamson would be looking to continue his outstanding form from last year while Manish Pandey and Wriddhiman Saha would try to perform better after a poor outing in 2018.
New signings Martin Guptill and Jonny Bairstow add to the strength of the batting order while local players Ricky Bhui and Shreevats Goswami would look to make the most out of the opportunities they receive.
All in all, the Sunrisers have got a good mix of Indian and overseas batsmen. The fact that the New Zealand players will be available for the entire season is an added bonus.
All-rounders
All-rounders: Deepak Hooda, Mohammad Nabi, Yusuf Pathan, Shakib Al Hasan, Abhishek Sharma, Vijay Shankar
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have a lot of Indian all-rounders in their squad which will prove beneficial in the selection of their playing XI. All-rounders like Deepak Hooda, Shakib Al Hasan and Yusuf Pathan have a ton of IPL experience.
They can take up the finisher's role in the batting order and also contribute some vital overs of spin in the middle. New recruits Vijay Shankar and Abhishek Sharma will also have some goals heading into this season.
While Vijay Shankar will work hard to put in good performances which would boost his bid for a permanent place in the Indian team, Abhishek Sharma would look to replicate his heroics from last season.
The Orange Army also have experienced Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi who will provide the perfect balance to the team.
Bowlers
Bowlers: Siddharth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, Basil Thampi, Billy Stanlake, T Natarajan, Sandeep Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem
Siddharth Kaul and Khaleel Ahmed's impressive performances in the IPL last year earned them their national call-ups and thus, the pace bowling duo was retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of this season.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been the face of the franchise's bowling attack ever since their formation which overseas bowlers Billy Stanlake and Rashid Khan played a good supporting role to Bhuvneshwar in IPL 11.
The young uncapped bowlers Basil Thampi, T Natarajan and Shahbaz Nadeem would look to follow in the footsteps of Khaleel and Siddharth Kaul and earn a Team India call-up while IPL veteran Sandeep Sharma would be keen to make a statement of his own.
