The Sunrisers Hyderabad came into existence in 2012 after the Deccan Chronicle group-owned Deccan Chargers went out of place and were taken over by the SUN group. The franchise won the IPL title in 2016 and have remained as one of the better teams of the tournament since. David Warner, Kane Williamson and Kalanithi’s daughter Kaviya Maran have noted their names as the faces of the team in the past few years.
However, following disappointing outings in 2021 and 2022, the franchise moved towards South African talents like Aiden Markram and Henrich Klassen. Makram was appointed captain for IPL 2023. But the Proteas top-order batter underwhelmed as batsman and as leader, as SRH finished with the wooden spoon.
