India are all set to tour Sri Lanka for a white-ball series, starting from July 27. The series comprises three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series.
The white-ball series commences in Pallekele. The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium will be hosting all games of the T20I series. The action will then shift to Colombo where R. Premadasa Stadium will play host to the three ODIs.
India, the T20 world champions, recently toured Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series. It was a pretty young side and after losing the first game, they bounced back to win the next four and seal the series by a 4-1 margin. They will be looking to carry forward the winning momentum in the Lanka series.
Suryakumar Yadav has been named as the captain of the Indian T20I side after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the shortest format after lifting the T20 World Cup. The series will provide the Indian management an opportunity to test a few players after the likes of Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja have retired.
Shubman Gill, who recently led India against Zimbabwe, has been named as the deputy to Suryakumar. Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh are back in the side. The Indian side will be looking to start the T20I series on a winning note.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have named Charith Asalanka as their T20I skipper. Wanindu Hasaranga resigned after leading Sri Lanka in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Asalanka successfully led the Jaffna Kings to the title in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League.
The hosts have named a strong side to face India. Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera are the experienced batters in the squad along with Asalanka. Dinesh Chandimal has made a comeback into the side.
Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka will lead the pace-bowling attack whereas Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana are the lead spinners. Dunith Wellalage and Dasun Shanaka are the all-rounders in the squad. They will be hoping to bring out their A-game against the world champions in the T20I series.
