The Indian Supreme Court has given tainted former BCCI president N. Srinivasan the green signal to contest in the upcoming BCCI elections. ESPNCricinfo reports.

However, there is a caveat to the ruling. The court has made it clear that Srinivasan will not be allowed to take full charge of the administrative processes while courts are still hearing cases related to him and the board. This comes in the wake of a petition made by the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB), seeking to restrict Srinivasan from contesting the elections.

The CAB had earlier made a petition challenging the Bombay High Court’s ruling on the BCCI’s inquiry committee which investigated charges of corruption in the IPL, on grounds that it had failed to appoint a fresh panel although the original one was found to be constituted illegally.

Currently, the daily running of the board is being conducted by Jagmohan Dalmiya, who is looking at Sunday’s election as a chance to legitimize his presidency.

After charges being levelled against his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, Srinivasan had moved away from the day-to-day dealings of the BCCI, handing over the reins to Jagmohan Dalmiya. Since then, he has been reinstated as Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s head and made it clear that he wants to regain his position at the of the BCCI for another term.

The election is going to be held at the board’s annual general meeting in Chennai on Sunday. Srinivasan had faced no public opposition from the BCCI until now, and the signs do show that another term in office is very likely.
