A fascinating story saw the emergence of a new, yet informal term in the game of cricket – ‘Mankaded’. For those who don’t know, Vinoo Mankad, an Indian cricketer, in 1947 , ran out an Australian batsman – Bill Brown while he was backing up too far at the non-strikers end, in the act of delivering the ball. This form of running a batsman out, has since been termed ‘Mankad’ or ‘The batsman has been Mankaded.”
