Buttler salutes after reaching his fifty

Jos Buttler scored a record-breaking century in just 46 balls today to demolish Pakistan’s bowling attack at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. He stamped his name on the record books by scoring the quickest one-day international hundred in England's history.

England also made a record-breaking total of 355 for 5 in the first innings with the help of Buttler’s swashbuckling innings which was also their highest ODI total recorded in the UAE and highest total outside England. Only four times have they scored more.

He is the first Englishman to score 100 runs in the last ten overs in the ODI, joining AB de Villiers who has achieved this feat twice and Rohit Sharma once.

Buttler was promoted to number 4 after opener Jason Roy, who scored his maiden ODI century. Roy’s ton gave England a dream start and Buttler the freedom to unleash his quick-fire innings.

The English batsman’s innings included eight sixes, which is another record for an England player in ODI cricket. He became the fastest centurion for England by breaking his own record of scoring a century in 61 balls against New Zealand earlier this year.

This was also the fastest century by any batsman against the Pakistani cricket team. The previous quickest ODI century against Pakistan was scored by Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya in 48 balls at Singapore in 1996.

With the swashbuckling century, Buttler also enters the top 10 fastest centurions list where he stands eighth now.
