It was a nightmare for bowlers when Chris Gayle scored 175 runs for 66 balls in a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and the erstwhile Pune Warriors. Gayle went on full assault against the Pune bowlers with his strokes all over the ground.

His once-in-a-lifetime knock simply blew Pune away, and netted a 130 runs victory for Bangalore. Gayle, with his big-hitting style, reached his own century in just the ninth over of the match.

The previous record was with Brendon McCullum, when he scored 158 runs in the very first innings of the IPL. McCullum hammered 10 fours and 13 sixes for his unbeaten 158 off 78 deliveries as he guided KKR to a total of 222 against RCB.

Rajasthan Royals showcased the most unexpected gameplay in the inaugural season of IPL. Despite the fact that Shane Warne was then the only big player in the team, they startled all the spectators. Sohail Tanvir is one of the reasons behind that success.

The best bowling figures by any player in IPL history are by Pakistani Left-arm medium-fast bowler Sohail Tanvir with 6/14 against CSK in 2008.

In the 24th match of IPL 2008, Tanvir removed 6 Chennai Super Kings batsmen to restrict them to a mere 109 runs. Rajasthan Royals won the match by 8 wickets (with 34 balls to spare). Tanvir also became the highest wicket taker of that season with 22 wickets in 11 matches.
