Virat Kohli created history by scoring the highest individual score by an Indian skipper in Tests. He achieved this feat when he took a single off Adil Rashid and surpassed MS Dhoni’s record of 224 against Australia at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai in 2013.
Kohli is in a sublime form this year as he scored his third double century this year. Kohli's 235 off 340 balls with the help of 25 fours and 1 six, along with Murali Vijay's 136 and Jayant Yadav's maiden Test ton ensured that the hosts take a big lead against England in the ongoing fourth Test at Mumbai.
Kohli came into bat when India lost Cheteshwar Pujara off the second ball on day 3 and looked comfortable right from the word go. He shared a partnership of 116 with Murali Vijay and reached his fifty before a batting collapse struck the Indian team.

In spite of that, Kohli remained defiant and went on to score his 15th Test century. At the start of 2016, there were criticisms about Kohli failing to convert his centuries into a big one. Kohli silenced all his critics in the best possible manner by reaching his third double century of the year earlier today.
In reply to England’s 400 in the first innings, India were bowled out for 631 leading England by 231 runs.
All of Kohli’s double centuries feature in the top-10 of the list of highest individual scores by Indian captains in Tests. The list also features the innings played by Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, MAK Pataudi, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Vijay Hazare.
With this, he also broke the record for the highest individual score by an Indian batsman against England surpassing Vinod Kambli’s 224.
