Sunil Gavaskar will be seen on air during the third test between England and Pakistan and the subsequent ODI series and T20 matches.
Gavaskar, who is one of the most familiar voices in matches involving India will not be a part of the commentary panel during India’s ODI series against Australia. Instead he is expected to be on air giving his views on the Pakistan-England series, Ajay Sethi, the Chairman of the Dubai based Channel 2 Group clarified.
“The Channel 2 Group has sub licensed the Pakistan-England radio rights to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and hence Gavaskar’s comments can be heard in UK. Geoffrey Boycott will be the expert commentator of the BBC. The ball by ball commentary can also be heard on 89.1 and coast FM. Radio 1 and Radio 2 will also be promoting this series in the UAE” Sethi said.
The Channel 2 Group which has been growing in popularity through their Cricket radio holds the rights for all International Cricket Council events until 2015.
“The huge interest for the third Test, which is being touted as the decider of the series, and the One-day and Twenty20 series has tempted us to make it available for all fans irrespective of their nationality and hence included Gavaskar as the expert commentator,” said Sethi, who is also instrumental in making radio commentary available through web sites too.
Gavaskar’s views are expected to be heard in the UAE and even in the UK.
