N Srinivasan – Will he resign?

The Supreme Court of India, on Tuesday, called for N Srinivasan to step down as the BCCI President to ensure a fair probe in the IPL fixing scandal.

The highest court in India was hearing the Justice Mudgal Committee findings on corruption in the Indian Premier League, which is the biggest T20 competition in the world with nearly all the big superstars of world cricket participating in the tournament.

The tournament came under the scanner last season after Chennai Super Kings’ Team Principal Gurunath Meiyappan – who is also Srinivasan’s son-in-law – was arrested for betting on IPL games. Meiyappan’s arrest came after three Rajasthan Royals players, including former Indian fast bowler S Sreesanth, were accused of spot-fixing.

“Why is Srinivasan sticking to his chair? If you don’t step down, then we will pass the order. The probe panel report in the sealed envelope contains very serious allegations and unless the BCCI chief steps down, no fair probe can be conducted,” the Supreme Court added.

There are also reports that the SC commented that the BCCI and Srinivasan are filled with filth.

The Supreme Court adjourned the case to March 27th 2014.
