Suryakumar Yadav is one of the most prolific batsman India has ever produced in limited-overs cricket. Since early childhood, Yadav developed an interest in cricket and badminton. His father Ashok Kumar Yadav made sure that Suryakumar focused on one sport only and make his career in it. He was 10 years old when his family shifted to Mumbai from Varanasi. The same year, he started playing cricket for his school team.
After showcasing his skills at the FC level, SKY rose through the ranks of IPL, proving his prowess and eventually earning his spot in the national team amongst intense competition. Now with a string of clinical performances, the 32-year-old has cemented his spot and become and integral cog of the national side.
Suryakumar Yadav made his international debut against England in March 2021 and since then he has gone on to represent the tricolour in 34 T20Is and 13 ODIs, scoring more than 1300 runs comprising eleven half-centuries and a solitary century.
Suryakumar Yadav Records- T20Is
Suryakumar Yadav has been enjoying a sublime form, of late. He became India’s leading T20I run-scorer in a calendar year during a T20I fixture against South Africa in Thiruvnanthapuram, earlier in September. The belligerent hitter surpassed Shikhar Dhawan’s record tally of 689 runs in his 21st appearance for India this year.
The 31-year-old’s runs have come at a 38-plus average alongside a staggering strike rate over 175 - the best among all batters who have played a minimum of 15 innings this year.
Suryakumar is also the leading run-scorer among all batters in 2022 in the shortest format of the game.
Suryakumar Yadav also achieved the feat for the most number of sixes hit by a batsman in T20 in a calendar year. He surpassed Pakistan's star batter Mohammad Rizwan’s 41 sixes to take his tally to 45 sixes already. While Rizwan took 26 innings to make 42 sixes, Suryakumar has broken the record by batting five times fewer.
He became the third-fastest Indian to reach 1000 runs in T20Is. The 32-year-old batter reached the four-figure mark in the shortest format of the game in his 31st innings, remaining only behind Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
He also achieved the feat of registering the joint 2nd fastest T201 fifty by an Indian batter. He scored the half-century in 18 balls to join KL Rahul- Yuvraj Singh is the fastest after he did it in 12 deliveries.
