Dynamic right-handed batter Suryakumar Yadav is heralded for all his all-round cricketing shots and making batting look easy. SKY has enjoyed a late bloom to his career after years of hardwork and grind.
He proved his mettle and bating prowess during four golden years with Mumbai Indians starting in 2018, during which they won the IPL title twice. He contributed to the Mumbai franchise’s success with his 1700-plus runs at a strike rate of around 140.
Prior to that, Suryakumar Yadav spent four seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders, starring in their second IPL title-winning year in 2014. However, his tally of 684 runs from 60 games didn't quite provide a foretaste of what he would go on to do with Mumbai Indians in the years that followed.
Suryakumar made his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai in 2010 and scored a confident 73.The following season, the batting dynamo amassed 754 from nine games, the most by anyone from his team. That tally included a double-ton against Orissa in the third match of the season, followed with a century in the next. He capped the season with yet another hundred in the Duleep Trophy. After a blip in 2012-13, he was back among the runs next season,finishing among Mumbai's top three run-getters.
Eleven years after making his first-class debut, Suryakumar’s first international outing with the bat came in 2021. He announced his arrival in style, hitting the first ball he faced in a T20I for a six. The bowler was England’s Jofra Archer. He registered two fifties in his first three T20Is, and smashed 117 off 55 the following year, albeit in a losing cause against England.

Suryakumar Yadav has been in sublime form of late. He became India’s leading T20I run-scorer in a calendar year during the first T20I against South Africa in Thiruvnanthapuram in September. The star batter surpassed Shikhar Dhawan’s record tally of 689 runs in his 21st appearance for India this year.
The 31-year-old’s runs have come at a 38-plus average alongside a staggering strike rate over 175 - the best among all batters who have played a minimum of 15 innings this year. Suryakumar is also the leading run-scorer among all T20I batters in 2022.

Ever since Suryakumar made his way to the national side, it has been an upward curve for the power-hitter. His concise and lethal strokeplay towards the death overs made him a much feared batter to be bowling against. He made his ODI debut for India on July 18, 2021 against Sri Lanka and since then has played 13 ODIs, scoring 340 runs at a strike rate close to 100.
