Although cricket has been a gentleman’s sport for a long time, it has still managed to produce characters who have not only performed on the field, but have also entertained the fans with their out of the box antics. Moments such as scoring a century or taking a wicket gives utmost joy to these players and bring out the most animated celebrations one could ever imagine. Though most of us are aware of the crazy celebration styles footballers adopt after scoring a goal. Let us now look at some of the most weirdest celebrations by various bowlers in the game of cricket.
The Langford -Smith Ferret Dance
This was Super-8 match between Ireland and Bangladesh. Here, you can see Dave Langford-Smith of the Irish cricket team doing his trademark jig, the Ferret dance.
The Joy of Ash
The Mohammad Ashraful gets animated after taking two wickets in the Bangladesh-Ireland during the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
Harbhajan ‘somersault’ Singh
Harbhajan Singh gets delighted after dismissing Ponting with his first ball and celebrates with somersaults on the ground.
Dave’s booty dance
Dave Mohammad at his animated best after removing Chris Gayle and Danza Hyatt in the Stanford Twenty20 final in 2008. (Pardon me for the poor video quality)
The Sree send-off
Sreesanth dances a.k.a Prabhu Deva, after dismissing Saqlain Mushtag during India’s match against Sussex during the 2007 tour.
Chicken Dance (Version 1.0)
You must be aware of Shoaib’s traditional aeroplane celebration, but here, you can see Shoaib giving a nice send-off to Kevin Pietersen by performing the Chicken Dance.
Chicken Dance (Irish version)
This is the Irish version of the Chicken Dance, performed by Trent Johnston, after he dismissed Virender Sehwag during the group stage match of the 2011 World Cup .
The DX effect
Bangadesh bowler Naris Hossain seems to be too inspired from the WWE and gives not-so-decent send-off to Kieran Powell.
Swann’s unusual celebration
Swanny’s unusual celebration after getting a 5-fer against India on day 5 of the 4th test at the Oval. There’s no sound on purpose here!
Too good to be true for Imran
This is one of my favourites, where a jubilant Imran Tahir runs all over the ground to celebrate the dismissal of Sri Lankan batsmen.
