Australia’s Steve Smith is doubtful for the third Ashes Test against England, which begins on August 1 at Old Trafford Manchester, with a sore back.
The Australian middle-order batsmen failed to attend the team’s practice session due to his back injury. Smith has been one of the few bright sparks in what has been a tour to forget for the Baggy Greens.
Smith also managed to score a 102 in the recently concluded tour match against Sussex.
“I think he’s doing okay,” opening batsman Chris Rogers said. “He might have tweaked it a little bit yesterday but talking to him he said he’s improved a bit so hopefully he’ll be right to train tomorrow and good to go on the first day. I think it’s just a bit restrictive, so hopefully it’s not a big issue.”
With Dave Warner being recalled to the squad, he could be the possible replacement in case Smith does not reach full fitness.
