The best of Cricket : All Time 15 Biggest Hitters

Everyone loves seeing the ball get mauled by a batsman and sail high over the fence for 6 or even sometimes out of the ground-that just gets you all excitedSo here is my list:

15.Collis King (West Indies)

This all rounder was best renowned for making the great Viv Richards look like a slow coach in his brutal assault in the 1979 World Cup Final. He had such talent with the bat and could hit them many a mile but never lived up to that talent for a sustained period.

14.Colin Milburn (England)

One of the tragic figures of cricket who lost his left eye in a car accident and thus with it his budding career.Though boy could this portly lad give the ball a real belt. Aside from this he could play as well and sadly we didn’t get to see his full career.

13.Andrew Symonds (Australia)

One of the most naturally gifted players ive seen, but one of the most frustrating too. He could hit the ball many a mile coupling his brutal power with his great timing

12.Shahid Afridi (Pakistan)

Like Symonds, Afridi is such a talented player, but such a frustrating one.My word can he give the ball a belt though when he wants too!

11.Andrew Flintoff (England)

Big man,big bat and big wallop of a ball when he connects. Great player to watch especially when he takes the short ball on and you see the ball sail high over the fences for sixers.

10.Clive Lloyd (West Indies)

One of the most brutal hitters of a cricket ball I’ve ever see especially square of the wicket. When the ‘Big Cat’ hit them my word did they stay hit!

9.Sanath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka)

I loved this awesome Sri Lankan opener and in truth he revolutionised ODI’s with his brutal assaults in the early overs. He had such timing and some of his shots were truly brutal, especially his cuts for sixers.

8.Adam Gilchrist (Australia)

Great player and one of the biggest hitters the game has seen. He was more about timing than brute force and some of his assaults were mind boggling. One at the Bullring against South Africa instantly springs to mind, where he ripped the Proteas to ribbons with his assault.

7.Garfield Sobers (West Indies)

One of the best players and batsmen in the history of the game. Though for all his style, timing, grace and true genius, my word did he have such easy power. When he wanted too he could hit the ball a long way and with such ‘easy’ and effortless power.

6.Lance Klusener (South Africa)

My word this guy was the epitome of the word brutality. When he hit them did they stay hit!

5.Ian Botham (England)This great all rounder again could hit a ball a long way. Probably best seen in his ‘Botham Ashes’ of 1981 when he belted the Aussies all over the park, over the fence and even out of the ground.

4.Chris Gayle (West Indies)

I can’t say I’ve seen many batsmen who can belt the ball quite like Gayle does. When he hits then they go many a long mile.

3.Kapil Dev (India)

One of my all time favourite players and as a batsman this great Indian had such brute power. When he decided to go on the attack no ground was big enough to keep him contained.

2.Viv Richards (West Indies)

You don’t get the nickname the ‘Master Blaster’ unless you can seriously hit a cricket ball. Anyone who saw Richards when he was in the mood to maul were left aghast at his power and brutal assaults.

1.Lance Cairns (New Zealand)

Just a bit of context here to show why I view Cairns as number one in this list…..The Melbourne Cricket Ground is a huge ground in every regard. So when you are watching a game there and you see Cairns deposit a ball over the fence and 20 rows back to the biggest part of the ground by using just one hand. You think he’s damned near impossible to top!
