Yusuf Pathan and Shakib al Hasan's partnership helped KKR reach a challenging total

It was match 38 of IPL 2016 and Kolkata Knight Riders were up against Gujarat Lions. Both teams were in a good position with KKR having won 6 of their previous 9 games while GL won 6 of their last 10 games.

KKR batted first but were off to a disastrous start as they were tottering at 24/4 by the end of the powerplay. However, Yusuf Pathan and Shakib al Hasan resurrected the KKR innings through their hitting and added 134 runs for the 5th wicket. The duo bettered the previous record of 130 which was also held by a KKR batting pair- Owais Shah and Angelo Mathews against Deccan Chargers in the IPL 2010 opener.

The pair batted till the end and KKR's innings ended at 158/4. Yusuf Pathan scored 63 from 41 deliveries while Shakib al Hasan scored 66 from 49 deliveries. However, a brilliant 29-ball 51 from Dinesh Karthik and a 10-ball cameo of 29 from Aaron Finch won the match for the Lions with two overs to spare. It also broke their three-match losing streak.
