The 1981 Ashes is also known as Botham’s Ashes because of the impact he had on England winning the series

Swimming: In 2012, the retired American swimmer Michael Phelps became the first male swimmer to win the same individual event at three straight Olympics, capturing the 200-meter individual medley.

Cricket: In 1981, Ian Botham, after his match winning performance with the bat at Headingley, helped England go 2-1 up in the Ashes series by taking five wickets for just a solitary run at Edgbaston. The series is also known as “Botham’s Ashes”.

Baseball: In 1979, New York Yankee catcher Thurman Munson died in a plane crash at the age of 32.

Baseball: In 1987, Kevin Seitzer of KC Royals, scored 6 hits in one baseball game.

Tennis: In 1987, Germany defeated USA in Vancouver, Canada (2-1) to win the 25th Tennis Fed Cup.
