6.)Gundappa R. Viswanath
In the era of the Original Little Master Sunil Gavaskar, there was this another diminutive player who was an elegant right hand-batsman with strong supple wrists. He was popularly known as Vishy and was used to save his best for the worst literally.
He was known to anchor the innings and he raised the price of his wicket whenever the chips were down. This led to him playing a very special knock of 97 against West Indies at Madras in 1974-75 series, which Wisden later rated as 2nd best non-century in there Wisden 100.
He ended up playing 91 tests and scoring 6080 runs at an average of 41.93, but here the statistics do not tell the whole story as he averaged over 50 against the strongest teams of the era such as Australia and West Indies. And, also out of his 14 test centuries, 13 of them came in a winning cause.
RECORD:
13 TESTS/ 24 INNINGS /858RUNS/ AVG:39.00/ 1 100
