MS Dhoni was given the chance to captain India in absence of the current skipper Virat Kohli and the vice-captain, Rohit Sharma. Before MS Dhoni stepped down from the captaincy, he captained India for the total of 199 matches in ODIs, being just 1 ODI short of the 200 mark.

However, he reached the 200 figure mark during the Asia Cup match between India and Afghanistan in 2018.
