Top 10 players in Champions League T-20 2010

Michael Klinger

The Champions League T -20 has been dominated by Australian and South African teams till now. With South Australia and Warriors winning all their games and Victoria and Lions winning 2 of their 3 games its been a tournament where IPL biggies barring Chennai Super Kings have failed to make an impact. So its no wonder that most of the best players in this tournament are from either South Africa or Australia. As expected the batsman have dominated the tournament and only very few bowlers having been able to make an impact.

1. Michael Klinger

This South Australian batsman has been at the peak of his form scoring 3 fifties in as many games giving his team a good start in all the games. Though a late bloomer he has made name with South Australia since he moved from Victoria in 2008-09 season. He can play both the attacking as well the steady game making him a tough batsman to get out.

2. Aaron Finch – He has been relatively new in the world of cricket but has set this stage on fire with his explosive batting. His 41 of 17 balls against Chennai showed heights of his destructive ability. His 93* took them to victory against a strong Central Districts. A youngster that Australia can look upto in the future. He has represented Australia in the under -19 world cup 2006.

3. Daniel Harris – Klinger’s opening partner has been equally impressive through this tournament scoring 2 fifties and sharing two 100+ partnerships. A qualified doctor, he had to wait a long time before being seen as a mainstay of batting in the South Australian line up. A yet another case of a 30+ Australian making a name.

4. Davey Jacobs – This wicketkeeper – opening batsman – Captain has been superb for the warriors in all the departments he handles. Though he has been relieved from wicket-keeping duties thanks to Boucher, being the Captain and opening batsman is not easy. He has scored briskly in the initial overs and then gone on to convert it into 50′s in 2 out the 3 games. With his batting form and captaincy Warriors are looking red hot.

5. Mark Boucher

- He has provided the lower order batting support for the Warriors. A batsman who can change his gears at will he has shown his ability winning the game against Wayamba with some gutsy hitting. He has got out just once this tournament.

6. Alviro Peterson – This opening batsman with a strike rate of 150+ and 2 fifties has been the best batsman for the Lions. His high octane batting has been the major reason for Lions winning 2 of their 3 games.

7. Shaun Tait – One of the very few bowlers who have bowled with pace and venom. In addition to containing the batsman he has been among the wickets as well.

8. Ravichandran Ashwin – His fast off spin has been rewarded with wickets. The current joint leading wicket taker, his economy rate is also only a tad above 6.5o. With Muralidharan the twin spin attack for Chennai has paid off.

9. Muttaih Muralidharan – The wizard has been miserly in this edition of Champions League. Though he has only 5 wickets to his name, his economy rate of 5.28 has been simply awesome.

10. Jamie How – He has been unlucky to be on the losing side in all his matches. This opening batsman has carried his bat through the innings twice scoring 88* and 77*. His batting has been the only positive for the Central Districts.

The underlying difference between the sub-continent teams and the others has been the ability to play on pitches having good bounce and pace. This is where the Australians and the South Africans have capitalized. The explosive Kieron Pollard and the master Sachin Tendulkar have played lone innings of marvel but haven’t been consistent. Doug Bollinger, Anil Kumble and Dale Steyn have bowled well in patches but have failed to make an impact. This tournament will surely bring out some new names into the world of cricket.
