#1 Jonathan Trott (England)
It has been five years since Jonathan Trott has retired from International cricket and still, England has not found an alternative for him in Test cricket at no.3. Though his international career was cut short, he will go down as one of the best England cricketers in the longest format for the game.
Trott straightaway made his mark in the Test arena by scoring a century in his debut match against Australia in the 2009 Ashes series. He initially batted lower down the order at the start of his Test career because of the presence of other established cricketers. As soon as he was promoted up the order to no.3, he became one of the key players in England’s Test setup.
In 52 Tests, Trott scored 3835 runs with 9 centuries and 19 half-centuries. Even though he had an excellent record against Australia, his career came to a premature end because of the famous 2013-14 Ashes series in which Mitchell Johnson terrified the Englishmen with his hostile pace bowling.
Matches - 52, Innings - 93, Runs - 3835, High Score – 226
