#5. Ben Stokes

The newest entrant in the list, Ben Stokes presently has 4,026 runs, playing in his 62nd Test. The England all-rounder crossed the 4,000-run mark during the ongoing Port Elizabeth Test against South Africa, as part of his 120 in the first innings. Stokes has nine hundreds and 21 fifties to his credit at an average of 36.93.
His 135 not out against Australia at Headingley during the 2019 Ashes has become stuff of legend. It was an incredible fightback as England were 286 for 9 chasing 359. Remarkably, England won after being bowled out for 67 in the first innings.
Stokes’ best of 258 came against South Africa at Cape Town in January 2016. Coming in at number six, he smashed the runs from 198 balls hitting 30 fours and 11 sixes. The match ended in a high-scoring draw.
With the ball, Stokes has claimed 143 wickets at an average of 32.93 with four five-wicket hauls. His best innings figures of 6 for 22 came in the first innings of the Lord’s Test against West Indies in September 2017 as the batting side were rolled over for 123. Stokes also contributed 60 with the bat as England won the game by nine wickets.
His best match figures of 8 for 161 (6 for 99 and 2 for 62) came in the Ashes Test at Sydney in January 2014. Australia, however, won the match by 281 runs.
