Shami made his ODI debut for Team India against arch-rivals Pakistan at Delhi in the final match of the three-match ODI series. His splendid display of bowling earned him a spot in India's 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup squad where he formed a deadly trio with Mohit Sharma and Umesh Yadav.
Shami was instrumental in India's semi-final run in the showpiece event with 17 scalps at an economy of 4.81. During the Asia Cup match against Afghanistan in March 2014, Shami scalped his 50th ODI wicket and is now the fourth fastest Indian to that milestone. The Bengal pacer who has so far played 50 ODIs has taken 91 wickets at an economy of 5.49.
