While one Kirsten was the coach of the World Cup winning Indian team, the other Kirsten was once mankaded by a World Cup-winning Indian skipper. Nine years after lifting the prestigious ICC Cricket World, Kapil Dev's actions damaged his reputation a bit.

India and South Africa took the field at St George's Park on 9th December, 1992 for the second ODI of the 7-match series. Batting first, India were bundled out for just 147, owing to Brian McMillan's 4-wicket haul.

South Africa lost Andrew Hudson early, but Peter Kirsten and Kepler Wessels were just settling in. In the ninth over, Dev mankaded Kirsten when he was batting on 5. However, despite the setback, South Africa went on to win the match as Hansie Cronje and Dave Callaghan built a match-winning partnership. The Proteas won the series 5-2.
