Brendon McCullum lit the stage of IPL in the first match of the inaugural edition by scoring an unbeaten 158 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Bangalore. RCB had bowlers like Zaheer Khan, Praveen Kumar and Jacques Kallis, and McCullum bashed them towards every corner of the stadium.
McCullum's knock of 158* consists of 10 fours and 13 sixes. He scored four consecutive boundaries off Zaheer Khan in the second over of the game. One of his sixes went off the edge towards the third man.
Baz reached his fifty off 32 balls and his century came in just 53 balls. His 158 came off only 73 balls and remained unbeaten throughout his knock. KKR scored 222/3 in 20 overs.
RCB innings folded with 82 runs on the scorecard and it ensured Knight Rider's win in the inaugural game. Brendon McCullum got the award of the man of the match for his explosive knock, and it remained the highest individual score in IPL till 23 April 2013. Chris Gayle broke that record by scoring 175* against Pune Warriors.
