Top 5 lowest scores in IPL

Although T20 cricket is labelled as a batsman’s heaven and a bowler’s graveyard, it is not always true.

The IPL has seen many low-scoring matches where bowling prowess has overshadowed batting. Obviously, the crowd doesn’t prefer a drought of boundaries and sixes, but there's a unique beauty in a bowler running through a lineup with swing or spin. And for some, it does seem refreshing to watch a low-scoring match after an overdose of run-fests.

And guess what, though it may look pretty easy, low-scoring matches are sometimes tougher to win than high-scoring ones, because complacency and over-confidence may turn the game around anytime.

Here we enlist top five lowest scores in the Indian Premier League:

49 all out (KKR vs RCB) – IPL history was created at Eden Gardens as Royal Challengers Bangalore were bowled out for the lowest total in the tournament. Chasing 132, RCB were bowled out for just 48; three players were dismissed for a duck and no one got into double digits. Colin de Grandhomme, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Chris Woakes all got three wickets apiece to condemn RCB to an 82-run defeat.

58 all out (RR vs RCB) – It was a day for the bowlers at Cape Town as Praveen Kumar and Jesse Ryder picked up a couple of wickets each to earn a victory for Bangalore. Anil Kumble was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with match figures of 3.1–1-5–5. However, Rahul Dravid was adjudged the Player of the Match for his top score of 66 in RCB’s innings of 133.

66 all out (DD vs MI) – Delhi Daredevils were completely dismantled in front of their fans as spin twins Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma spun a web around the batsmen. After deciding to bowl first, Delhi found themselves in trouble with Pollard and Simmons’ fireworks leading Mumbai to 212. In reply, the Delhi batting crumbled with Harbhajan picking up 3/22 and Karn Sharma returning figures of 3/11.

67 all out (DD vs KXIP) – Corey Anderson, Kagiso Rabada and Karun Nair were the only batsmen to get into double figures as a shambolic batting performance from Delhi saw them be bowled out for just 67 in 17.1 overs in Punjab. Sandeep Sharma picked up 4 wickets while Axar Patel and Varun Aaron picked up 2 each.

67 all out (KKR vs MI) – The MI bowlers ran through the fragile KKR batting line-up with a perfect display of bowling. They picked up wickets at regular intervals and wiped out the tail by the 16th over. In reply, the Knight Riders looked hapless as they accepted a humiliating defeat at the hands of Sanath Jayasuriya.

Shaun Pollock was the Player of the Match for his three important scalps while giving away only 12 runs.
