Coldplay will finally play in India

The Mumbai-based web portal Mid-Day reported that British band Coldplay will be performing in the city on November 19 at the MMRDA and the show will be part of the Global Citizen Festival run by Chris Martin.

However, fans were disappointed when they heard about the reported ticket prices for the event. The music concert, held in the MMRDA will reportedly cost a minimum Rs 25,000 climbing to Rs 5,00,000 which would make the concert unavailable for a large section of the public.

While no one would be willing to fork out that amount for a few hours, here are five events where you could watch Indian athletes perform at a fraction of the cost.

#1 Kabaddi World Cup 2016

Pro-Kabaddi League 2015, India

Kabaddi has re-emerged in India since the inception of the Pro-Kabaddi League. The Indian public have taken to the sport and television channels have got good TRP ratings by broadcasting the Pro-Kabaddi event.

Kabbadi fans will be excited to know that the Kabaddi World Cup will be played in Ahmedabad, Gujarat between 7-22 October.

The ticket prices haven’t been released yet, but going by the Pro-Kabaddi ticket prices, which were between Rs. 300-750, the prices should be in and around that range.

Each team in the Kabaddi World Cup will play at least 5 matches, barring from the semi-final and final matches. If the Kabaddi World Cup tickets costs are similar to that of the Pro-Kabaddi League, the season ticket should not be more than Rs. 2,500.

That’s just 1/10th of the cost of the Coldplay tickets!

#2 Indian Super League 2016

FC Pune City celebrates a goal in ISL 2016

The Indian Super League will start from October 3 and the event is a two-month long football tournament that is being played for the past two years in India. The Indian Super League or ISL pulls in amazing crowds, a packed stadium for the Atletico De Kolkata or Kerala Blasters matches gives any rock concert a run for its money.

The ticket prices vary as different teams have different price structures but going by last edition’s tournament, and tickets were available for as low as Rs. 100 and going as high as Rs. 5,000 for the Atletico De Kolkata matches.

Now, if one can watch the tournament for Rs. 100, one wouldn’t spend more than Rs. 1000 for the entire tournament! That’s excellent value in our books The other teams from different cities almost had similar or the same ticket price structure as the Kolkata-based team.

#3 India vs New Zealand Test series

Indian team poses after winning against New Zealand in 2012

The Indian Cricket team is set to play three Test matches against New Zealand starting from September 22 in Kanpur. As per an online ticket portal, the season pass ticket prices go as low as Rs. 200 and as high as Rs. 2,000 for the first Test.

As for the other two venues, the ticket prices are not released yet but prices should not differ very much.

The cheapest ticket cost for all three tests wouldn’t exceed Rs. 1000.

However, if one wants to catch the match with a comparatively luxurious ticket, the budget should not change hugely. The Kolkata test ticket prices will most likely be cheaper than the Kanpur and Indore tests, too.

#4 Rio Paralympics

Currently being played in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, the Paralympics is one of the largest events for specially abled sports people. The Paralympics might not be as popular as the Olympics but people are still supportive of the athletes taking part.

As for the ticket prices, the prices vary from day-to-day and event-to-event. However, the minimum price we could find was $6 USD for Powerlifting and the highest $22 USD for Swimming. Going by an average of $15 USD, the minimum expense for an Indian should not be over $165 USD which is Rs. 11,026 at the best.

However, the Paralympics has a number of sports to offer for the spectators. If one has to watch multiple sports on the same day, spectators will end up spending much lesser than the Rs. 25,000 ticket price tag of the Coldplay concert.

#5 Asian Hockey Champions Trophy

The Asian Hockey Champions Trophy is a tournament, annually organized by the Asian Hockey Federation since 2011. The tournament features the top six Asian field hockey teams. The 2016 edition of the tournament is going to be held in Kuantan, Malaysia starting from October 20.

The ticket price structure is not out yet but it is expected that the ticket prices will not vary much from the Hero Hockey World League. The Hero Hockey World League final had a ticket pricing of Rs. 50-100 for the general stands and Rs. 1000 for the VIP stand.

Thanks to the current exchange rate, the Malaysian Ringgit costs very little compared to the Indian Rupee, hence affordable to most Indians.

This tournament will see the likes of India, Korea, Japan, Malaysia take on the current holders of the trophy, Pakistan.
